Our first trauma-focused garden is scheduled to be installed during the summer of 2019 at Cumberland Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Fayetteville, NC. It is more than a garden, it is an outdoor landscape, which has been designed by mental health experts and horticultural experts to create an environment that allows for recovery, vocational training, family engagement, healthy conversations and feeling valued.
We have an opportunity to go ahead and to start building this garden now! It is a unique space which has pacing pathways, an outdoor classroom, colors and sections for artistic expression, yoga, counseling, and a re-surfaced basketball court. We need to reduce the risk of recidivism and our youth ending up in adult settings. We believe that these self-sustaining gardens are a great first step, as a place to learn new life skills, and will be very beneficial for the wellbeing of the staff who work in the facility as well.
We would love your support! We are looking for fundraising ideas and gathering volunteers to assist with the build!
